Today we're going to try Boolean modeling. Boolean modeling is technique which subtracts object #1 from object #2.
Let's get started shall we :)
1. Create a Cone Object with the following values: Radius 1: 50 Radius 2: 0 Height: 60 Height Segments: 10 Cap Segments: 1 Sides: 50 (to make it nice and round)

2. Now create a Box Object with the following values: Length: 100 Width: 100 Height: 10 Length Segs: 1 Width Segs: 1 Height Segs: 1
Now drag the Box Object up a little (see image below)

3. Select the Box Object, hit and hold shift and pull it down a little. When you let go of the mouse you'll get a "pop-up" asking what you want to do with the new object. Select Copy and click OK.

4. Now select the Cone Object and in the select box (see image below, left side) select Compound Objects. After you've done this click the Boolean button (see image below, right side).

5. Click the Pick Operand B button and then click the top Box Object. As you'll see the Box Object will disappear and leave a "gap" in the Cone Object.

6. Repeat the same action as told by step 5, only now select the bottom Box Object.

7. Now create a new Cone Object with the following values: Radius 1: 48 Radius 2: 0 Height: 58 Height Segments: 10 Cap Segments: 1 Sides: 50
You should now have the following:

8. Apply some nice colors to both the outer as the inner cone.

9. Render it and you'll have finished your first Boolean Modeling adventure.
